NMAA Foundation Scholarships

The following NMAA Foundation Scholarships are awarded to students from NMAA member schools that have been chosen for each individual award because they exemplify the dedication, scholastic achievement, and sportsmanship ideals promoted by the Association. A student may apply or be nominated for multiple scholarships.

Extraordinary Participation Scholarship - 2 scholarships awarded (Two $2,500 scholarships) Candidates are graduating seniors who have participated and excelled in BOTH activities and athletics while maintaining exceptional academic standards. Recipients are the true embodiment of the NMAA’s mission to help develop complete and well-rounded citizens

Mario Martinez Memorial Scholarship – 2 scholarships awarded (Two $1,000 scholarships) Candidates are graduating seniors from Class A-2A schools who will be evaluated on their participation and achievement in athletics as well as academics. They must also be a three sport athlete to qualify.

Dan and Lucille Wood / Grey Gladiator Athletic Scholarship- 2 scholarships awarded (Two $1,000 scholarships) Candidates are graduating seniors who will be evaluated on their participation and achievement in athletics as well as academics.

Activities Scholarship - 2 scholarships awarded (Two $1,000 scholarships) Candidates are graduating seniors who will be evaluated on their participation and achievement in activities as well as academics.

El Richards/Frances Walsh Spirit Scholarship - 2 scholarships awarded (Two $1,000 scholarships) Candidates are graduating seniors who will be evaluated on their participation and achievement in Cheer/Dance as well as academics.

“Compete with Class” Sportsmanship Scholarships – Maximum of 8 scholarships awarded (Maximum of eight $1,000 scholarships) Awards will be given to students that best exemplify the Compete with Class sportsmanship initiative and its three pillars: Respect, Integrity, and Responsibility. Recipients will be selected by the NMAA Foundation Board of Directors based on recommendations from the NMAA and its member schools.

At-Large Scholarships - 3 scholarships awarded Coach Dick Shelley St. Michael’s HS Basketball, Ralph Ortiz BPOE Elk’s Club of Santa Fe, & Santa Fe Knights of Columbus Scholarships (Three $1,000 scholarships) Candidates are graduating seniors who have participated in athletics and demonstrate the ideals promoted by the Association.

The Application/Nomination deadline is February 1, 2020 at 4:00 pm MST. Note that there is no application process for the Compete with Class Sportsmanship Scholarships. Recipients for these will be selected by the NMAA Foundation Board throughout the year based on recommendations from the NMAA and its member schools. All other scholarship recipients will be recognized at the NMAA State Basketball Championships.
